Marie and Wayne eloped on September 8th, with a ceremony at the 620 Loft & Garden with additional photographs taken at Central Park.
Wayne met Marie when he went for a managerial job interview at a restaurant where she was working. As soon as he saw her, he thought, “I have to get this job, because I have to get to know her.” Well, he did get the job and as it turned out they hit it off straight away, especially when he found out that Marie was Czech. Wayne spent most of his teenage summers in the Czech Republic staying with his brother, who had lived there for nine years.
In August, Wayne and Marie were in Prague on a beautiful, sunny day, sitting in a swan boat for two, floating down the river and looking at the old, beautiful city. Wayne had been planning to ask Marie to marry him for months now. Just as he was getting up the nerve, a boat with three Americans and a Taiwanese man came over to them. The Taiwanese man handed Wayne a small, red envelope with a card containing the symbol for love. The moment was perfect—and Wayne proposed then and there.
On the day of the elopement, I met up with Marie at the venue and got her tucked around a corner, then met Wayne as he got off the elevator. It was just the two of them at this intimate wedding, so once I got Wayne and the officiant, Amy, set up for the ceremony, in walked Marie! The entire service was accompanied by the Highline Quartet.
These two had an amazing energy, bubbling over with laughter and joy. They had sweet vows they read to each other, too, so the whole ceremony ran the gamut of emotions and was amazing to watch.
After the ceremony and some private time on the rooftop, we migrated to Central Park for some additional photographs. We took a cab, but Marie ended up having a hard time getting out because of her dress. She didn’t make it out on the first scoot, which had Wayne cracking up as she tried again. One of my favorite shots of the day was of them finally managing to get out of that cab, beaming with leftover laughter and smiles.
When we got to Central Park, we wandered around, taking a few more romantic photographs, and my favorite one of the day was when we got the wide dip in the street in the middle of Park Avenue.
Wayne & Marie, thank you for letting me be part of your special day. I’m so honored that I was able to capture these memories for you forever!
