Louise & Matt eloped on October 12th at City Hall, and I was thrilled to photograph this moment in their lives for them.
I was particularly touched that Louise and Matt chose me because, while Matt is a police intelligence analyst, Louise works as a semi-professional wedding photographer. Being chosen to photograph another photographer’s wedding is such an honor. We professionals can be picky about what we’re looking for, and we know what’s good and what isn’t. Knowing that Louise trusted me to capture her vision was nothing less than humbling.
These two met on a blind date that Louise’s friend set up. That friend worked with Matt and thought that they would get along—and was absolutely right. They got engaged the March before the wedding when Matt took Louise to a fancy Michelin-starred restaurant in Manchester and then went out for drinks overlooking the city on their third anniversary. He got a Haribo candy ring out of his pocket and sarcastically proposed, which was a running joke at the time. Then, to Louise’s surprise, he got on one knee and pulled a box out of his pocket to ask, “What if I use this ring instead?”
Louise and Matt have an effortless style about them, and they definitely know how to keep it casual. In fact, they tend to stray so far into “casual” that Louise’s father asked her if she was planning to get married in jeans and sneakers! She didn’t get married in jeans, as you can see. The easygoing and laid-back nature of these two was so wonderful to photograph as we wandered through New York City. They are naturally relaxed and fun together—which makes my job easy.
Matt & Louise, thank you for asking me to photograph your elopement. I was honored that you trusted me with your big day, and I wish you both the best.
